As the present volume is published mainly with a view of the needs of the clergy engaged in the care of souls, the bulk of the book has been. The Pontifical Oriental Institute houses the only Catholic Faculty of Eastern Canon Law in the world.
A major focus of work in this Institute is the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches, which is the canonical code for all Eastern Catholic churches. The first canon of books declares right of the church to do certain things.
Canon (Book 5) also declares the right of the church to own and administer temporal goods. Canon (Book 6) declares the right to coerce offending members with penal sanctions. Canon (Book 7) declares right to judge ecclesiastical matters. A priest not impeded by canon law celebrates the Eucharist licitly; the provisions of the following canons are to be observed.
Can. A priest is free to apply the Mass for anyone, living or dead. Can. Unless the welfare of the Christian faithful requires or suggests otherwise, priests can concelebrate the Eucharist.
